Rhinoplasty in Cyprus (Nose Reshaping)

Academic Surgical Discipline, Island Comfort During Recovery

The nose is the single feature positioned at the centre of the face; a millimetre-level change can transform your entire expression. For this reason, rhinoplasty is far more than a surgical procedure — it is a planning discipline in which proportion, symmetry and breathing are solved together. At Nis Clinic, rhinoplasty in Cyprus rests on two foundations: the plastic surgery expertise of Op. Dr. İbrahim Meyzin and a recovery period spent in island tranquillity, with your privacy fully protected. On this page we explain in detail how rhinoplasty is performed, the step-by-step process at Nis Clinic, who is a suitable candidate, the recovery timeline, and precisely why North Cyprus has become a serious destination for this procedure.

What Is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that reshapes the nose both aesthetically and functionally. By reorganising the bony and cartilaginous framework, the nasal bridge, tip, alar width and airway are all addressed together. At Nis Clinic we approach rhinoplasty not as a purely cosmetic intervention, but as a reconstructive planning process in which facial proportions and nasal breathing are resolved simultaneously — because a nose that looks attractive but breathes poorly is an unsuccessful rhinoplasty.

The procedure is categorised according to the surgical approach and technique selected. The appropriate technique is determined by the patient's anatomy, bone structure, skin thickness and the change being sought. At our clinic, a one-size-fits-all approach does not exist.

Open Rhinoplasty and Closed Rhinoplasty

  • Closed rhinoplasty: All incisions are made inside the nose. No external scarring is visible. Swelling and bruising are reduced and recovery is a few days faster. Because access to the nasal tip is limited, this approach is preferred in cases requiring moderate to minimal change.
  • Open rhinoplasty: A small incision is added at the columella (the narrow strip of skin between the two nostrils) and the skin flap is elevated. This gives the surgeon direct visualisation and is advantageous for complex tip work, revision cases and marked asymmetries. The columellar scar becomes virtually imperceptible within a few months.

Which approach is right for you is decided together during your consultation, following photographic analysis and 3D simulation. Marketing claims that tout closed technique as the only option "because it leaves no scar" are misleading — the technique that delivers the best outcome for your anatomy is the correct choice.

Piezo (Ultrasonic) Rhinoplasty

Piezo surgery is a technique that uses ultrasonic vibration rather than the classical chisel-and-mallet method for bone reshaping. It cuts and sculpts bone tissue without damaging surrounding blood vessels or soft tissue. Its advantages include:

  • Less trauma → reduced swelling and bruising
  • More precise bone shaping → opportunity for millimetre-level correction
  • Noticeably faster visible recovery compared with conventional technique (approximately 20–30% quicker apparent healing)

Piezo is not required in every case; we use it where the bony structure is thick, asymmetry is pronounced, or precise dorsal reduction is needed. Because ultrasonic equipment carries a high cost, it is not available at every clinic — at Nis Clinic we can offer it for suitable patients.

Tip Rhinoplasty, Revision and Ethnic Rhinoplasty

  • Tip rhinoplasty (nasal tip refinement): A limited procedure in which only the tip is reshaped without touching the bony framework. It is appropriate for a drooping tip, a broad tip or a bulbous (round) tip. Recovery time is noticeably shorter than for full rhinoplasty.
  • Revision rhinoplasty: Performed for patients who are dissatisfied with the result of a previous rhinoplasty. It is a more demanding procedure; tissue planes may be disrupted and scar tissue may have formed. At least 12 months must have passed since the first operation. Revision requires reconstructive surgical thinking, not a technician's approach.
  • Ethnic rhinoplasty: Aesthetic improvement in patients of varied ethnic backgrounds (Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Caucasian, African heritage) while preserving the characteristic features of their nasal anatomy. The aim is not to erase ethnic identity but to improve proportion. This approach requires the surgeon's cultural sensitivity and technical versatility.

The Rhinoplasty Process at Nis Clinic

Rhinoplasty is not a single operating day — it is a surgical planning journey that extends from your initial consultation to your 12-month review. We structure the process across five stages.

Consultation — First Meeting and Expectation Alignment

The first consultation can take place online (via Zoom or WhatsApp video) or in person at our clinic. The majority of patients travelling from abroad prefer to hold the initial consultation online and the detailed examination in person.

During the consultation, we assess together:

  • Aesthetic concerns about the nose (dorsal hump, drooping tip, wide alar base, asymmetry, etc.)
  • Breathing complaints (septal deviation, turbinate hypertrophy, nasal obstruction)
  • Facial proportions, chin profile, and the forehead–nose–lip relationship
  • Previous nasal trauma or surgery
  • Chronic conditions, medications and smoking status
  • Your expectations — aligning on a realistic goal is critical

We address realistic expectations early, because in rhinoplasty the most common source of dissatisfaction is not a technical error but a mismatch between expectation and outcome. Wanting someone else's nose is not a healthy goal; a natural result that harmonises with your own facial structure is both aesthetically and ethically the right approach.

3D Simulation and Surgical Planning

Following the consultation, the second appointment includes high-resolution photographic analysis and 3D simulation. The purpose is not to show a "Photoshop-perfect image" but to confirm together what the target looks like.

During the planning stage, we evaluate:

  1. Skin thickness: Minor changes are more visible in thin skin; thicker skin may require more aggressive skeletal modification. Skin thickness also affects the final result timeline.
  2. Bone-to-cartilage balance: Which area will be reduced, which will need support (grafting may be required).
  3. Airway: If a septal deviation is present, septoplasty is added to the same session. This is carried out as a medical necessity at no additional charge.
  4. Facial proportions: The frontonasal angle, nasolabial angle (lip–nose relationship) and chin profile. The nose is not considered in isolation — its place within the whole face is planned.
  5. Choice of surgical approach: Open or closed, whether piezo is needed, whether tip refinement is included.

Simulation is a communication tool for reaching the intended outcome — it is not a legal guarantee, and we make this clear from the outset.

The Day of Surgery — 2–4 Hours Under General Anaesthesia

Rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia in a sterile operating theatre, with an experienced anaesthetist present throughout. Average duration is 2–4 hours and varies according to the chosen technique, any additional procedures (septoplasty, turbinate reduction, grafting) and case complexity.

Typical schedule:

  • 08:00 — Clinic admission, final pre-operative checks, anaesthetist assessment
  • 08:30 — Blood tests and ECG review
  • 09:00 — Transfer to operating theatre, anaesthetic induction
  • 09:30 — Surgery commences (skin marking, incision according to selected approach)
  • 11:30–13:00 — Surgery completed; intra-nasal packing or silicone splint placed, external plaster cast or thermoplastic splint applied
  • 13:00–15:00 — Observation in recovery room
  • 15:00 — Transfer to room, first meeting with family or companion

After surgery, you remain under observation overnight at the clinic or an affiliated hospital. Discharge takes place the following morning after a check. Local-anaesthesia rhinoplasty is marketed by some clinics, but given the sensitivity of the nasal nerve anatomy and the duration of the procedure, general anaesthesia is the standard for modern rhinoplasty.

Recovery Timeline — 24 Hours, 7 Days, 3 Months, 12 Months

The success of rhinoplasty depends as much on the 12 months that follow as on the operation itself. The timeline at Nis Clinic:

  • First 24 hours: Internal packing or a silicone splint is in place; you breathe through your mouth. Light oozing is normal. Keep your head elevated on two pillows. Pain is generally mild to moderate and is well managed with prescribed analgesia.
  • Days 2–3: Swelling and periorbital bruising reach their peak. Cold compresses are recommended.
  • Days 5–7: Intra-nasal packing and the external cast are removed. You see your first "reflection of yourself" on this day — as swelling continues, this is not the final result.
  • Week 2: Marked swelling and bruising have largely subsided. Returning to social activities is possible; however, strenuous exercise and sun exposure are still not advisable.
  • Month 1: Approximately 70% of swelling has resolved. The nose appears recovered at a glance.
  • Month 3: Sensitivity around the nasal tip may persist. Tip shape begins to settle.
  • Month 6: Approximately 80–85% of the final result is apparent.
  • Month 12: Final result. The last refinement of the nasal tip and full skin adaptation take up to 12 months. In patients with thicker skin, further improvement may continue until month 18.

We remain in contact with you at every stage via WhatsApp. Questions sent with photographs receive a response within 24 hours. Reviews at months 1, 3, 6 and 12 are scheduled in person or via video call.

Long-Term Follow-Up and Result Photography

At the 12-month review we take photographs from standardised identical angles; these are added to your clinical file. With your consent, they are included in our GDPR-compliant before-and-after archive. Photograph consent is entirely voluntary; a patient's treatment process is in no way affected if consent is not given.

Rhinoplasty results are long-lasting; however, natural changes in nasal tissues over time are to be expected. In very rare cases a minor revision may be required (approximately 5–10% of cases, based on international published data). Where a small correction is needed, it is not performed within the first year — we wait for full tissue settling.

Who Is a Suitable Candidate? Who Should Proceed With Caution?

Rhinoplasty is not the answer to every nasal concern. We take candidacy assessment seriously — because a poorly matched procedure serves no one well.

Suitable Candidates

  • Individuals whose facial skeleton has finished developing: Typically from age 17 in women and 18 in men. Performing the procedure before this is not appropriate from a permanence or aesthetic standpoint.
  • Patients with good general health and no uncontrolled chronic conditions
  • Individuals with aesthetic concerns (dorsal hump, drooping or wide tip, asymmetry, wide nasal bridge)
  • Patients with breathing problems (septal deviation, nasal obstruction) — septoplasty can be performed in the same session
  • Individuals requesting revision, provided at least 12 months have passed since the first procedure
  • Patients with realistic expectations who seek a result that harmonises with their own facial structure

There is no upper age limit — we achieve good outcomes in patients well into their 50s and 60s provided general health is suitable; however, skin elasticity and the healing process may differ from younger patients, and we share this openly during consultation.

Situations Requiring Caution or Deferral

  • Suspected body dysmorphic disorder (BDD): Psychological assessment may be required before surgery. Excessive and disproportionate body-image preoccupation calls for psychological support rather than surgery.
  • Active acne or skin infection: Dermatological treatment first; surgery is deferred.
  • Isotretinoin (Roaccutane) use: At least 6 months must have elapsed since the last dose; it adversely affects wound healing.
  • Uncontrolled diabetes, hypertension or thyroid disease: Internal medicine review first; values must be stabilised.
  • Anticoagulant use: Cardiology consultation; an appropriate transition plan is arranged 7–10 days before surgery.
  • Smoking: Must be stopped at least 4 weeks before the procedure; nicotine reduces tissue perfusion and impairs healing.
  • Under 18 years of age: Not performed for aesthetic purposes (except reconstruction following significant trauma).
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Elective rhinoplasty is not performed.

The patient we tell "this is not right for you" is more valuable to us than the one we tell "you are suitable" — because a successful rhinoplasty begins with careful patient selection.

Why Cyprus? Why Nis Clinic?

There are hundreds of clinics in Turkey and thousands of surgeons across Europe offering rhinoplasty. Here are three concrete reasons to choose North Cyprus and Nis Clinic.

1) Op. Dr. İbrahim Meyzin — Plastic Surgery Expertise

Op. Dr. İbrahim Meyzin is a Specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Cyprus Turkish Medical Association Registry No: 969. Rhinoplasty is not merely a cosmetic skill — it is the intersection of plastic, reconstructive and functional surgery, a discipline that works by redesigning the underlying framework rather than addressing the surface alone. A reconstructive surgical background is especially decisive in revision rhinoplasty and post-trauma nasal reconstruction cases. He is personally present for every operation; the "an assistant operates while the doctor supervises" model is not practised at Nis Clinic.

2) North Cyprus Location — Privacy, Relaxation and Close to Europe

North Cyprus offers an outstanding recovery environment for rhinoplasty patients. The 10–14-day visible recovery period following nose surgery — bruising, swelling, cast — is the most socially uncomfortable phase. The island setting exists precisely for this:

  • Privacy: The likelihood of running into anyone you know is virtually nil. Spending this period away from your social circle, in a calm environment while your face heals, is psychologically significant.
  • Ease of access: 1 hour 15 minutes from Istanbul, 4–4.5 hours from the United Kingdom. Direct flight connections are well established.
  • Climate advantage: The temperate Mediterranean climate allows sun exposure to be managed in a controlled manner during recovery (direct sun is not recommended for the first 4 weeks).
  • No visa required: Turkish passport holders cross freely; the procedure is also straightforward for UK citizens.

We operate three branches:

  • Nicosia — main clinic, operating theatre and consultation centre
  • Kyrenia — on the coast, positioned for medical tourism patients (ideal for the recovery-period stay)
  • Famagusta — serving patients on the eastern side of the island

3) Transparent Pricing Policy

Rhinoplasty prices vary across a very wide range depending on clinic, surgeon and country:

  • United Kingdom: €8,000–€15,000+
  • Europe (Germany, Switzerland, Italy): €7,000–€12,000
  • Turkey: €2,500–€6,000 (lower end carries higher risk; higher end is associated with academic surgeons)
  • Nis Clinic (Cyprus rhinoplasty package): starting from €4,000, average €4,000–€6,000

This range varies according to the technique selected (closed / open / piezo ultrasonic), additional procedures (septoplasty, turbinate reduction, grafting), whether it is a primary or revision procedure, length of stay and package scope. The exact figure is given to you individually following consultation and 3D planning. Included in the package:

  • Airport transfer (Ercan Airport — hotel — clinic)
  • 5–7 nights accommodation (4-star partner hotel)
  • Surgery and anaesthesia fees
  • Medications and nasal care products
  • Cast/splint removal appointment
  • WhatsApp support (24/7 written)
  • Photographic follow-up reviews at months 1, 3, 6 and 12

There are no hidden fees. The figure quoted to you during consultation remains fixed until the day of surgery.

Seeking the "cheapest" clinic for rhinoplasty carries real risk: revision rhinoplasty typically costs two to three times more than a primary procedure, and a well-executed first operation is the most economical choice in the long run.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does rhinoplasty cost in Cyprus?
At Nis Clinic, rhinoplasty packages start from €4,000, with an average range of €4,000–€6,000. The price varies according to the technique chosen (closed / open / piezo ultrasonic), additional procedures (septoplasty, turbinate reduction, grafting), whether it is a primary or revision procedure, and the length of stay. The package includes airport transfer, 5–7 nights accommodation, surgery and anaesthesia, medications, cast removal appointment and 12-month photographic follow-up. There are no hidden fees; the exact figure is shared after a free consultation and 3D planning session. This range is approximately 50–70% lower than the UK average and comparable with academic surgeons in Turkey.
Is rhinoplasty in North Cyprus (TRNC) reliable?
Rhinoplasty in North Cyprus is a safe surgical procedure when performed at a licensed clinic under the supervision of a registered plastic surgery specialist, with an experienced anaesthetist present. At Nis Clinic, Op. Dr. İbrahim Meyzin is a registered Specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery with the Cyprus Turkish Medical Association (Registry No: 969). The measure of safety is not the country but the individual and the institution: who is the surgeon, what is their training background, how many years of experience do they have, do they personally attend the operation, is an anaesthetist present, and what is the operating theatre standard? Avoiding any clinic that cannot give clear answers to these questions is the right approach.
What is the difference between open and closed rhinoplasty?
In closed rhinoplasty, all incisions are made inside the nose and no external scarring is visible; swelling and bruising are reduced. However, access to the nasal tip is limited, so this approach is preferred for cases requiring moderate to minimal change. In open rhinoplasty, a small incision is added at the columella (the narrow strip of skin between the nostrils) and the skin flap is elevated, giving the surgeon direct visualisation. Open technique is advantageous for complex tip work, revision cases and marked asymmetries. The columellar scar becomes virtually imperceptible within a few months. Which technique is right for you is planned during consultation based on the intended change and your anatomical structure.
How long is recovery after rhinoplasty?
Recovery is gradual. During the first 7 days the cast or splint remains in place; when it is removed you see the initial result, but this is not the final outcome. By the end of week 2, marked swelling and bruising have largely cleared and returning to social activities is possible. By month 1, approximately 70% of swelling has resolved. By month 3, tip sensitivity decreases. By month 6, approximately 80–85% of the final result is apparent. The final result forms at month 12; the last tip refinement and skin adaptation take up to 12 months. Patients with thicker skin may continue to see improvement until month 18. Rhinoplasty results should therefore not be assessed at one month — waiting 6–12 months is the appropriate approach.
When is the cast removed after rhinoplasty?
The external plaster cast or thermoplastic splint is generally removed on days 5–7. Any intra-nasal silicone splint is also removed in the same appointment. Cast removal is painless, but the initial appearance does not yet reflect the final outcome due to residual swelling — we inform all patients of this from the outset. Protective taping may be recommended for the first week after cast removal. Long-haul travel, flying or strenuous physical activity is advisable only after at least 48–72 hours have passed following cast removal.
What is piezo (ultrasonic) rhinoplasty and who is it suitable for?
Piezo rhinoplasty is a technique that uses ultrasonic vibration rather than the classical chisel-and-mallet for bone reshaping. It cuts and sculpts bone tissue without damaging surrounding blood vessels or soft tissue. Its advantages include less trauma, reduced swelling and bruising, millimetre-level precision and approximately 20–30% faster visible recovery. Piezo is not required in every case; it is preferred where the bony structure is thick, asymmetry is pronounced, or precise dorsal reduction is needed. Because ultrasonic equipment carries a high cost, it is not available at every clinic. At Nis Clinic we can offer it for suitable patients.
Can rhinoplasty address breathing problems as well?
Yes. Septal deviation (a crooked midline wall) and turbinate hypertrophy (enlarged intra-nasal structures) — the most common causes of nasal obstruction — can be corrected in the same session as rhinoplasty. This combined procedure is called septorhinoplasty. At Nis Clinic we always carry out a breathing assessment alongside cosmetic evaluation; where a breathing problem is identified, functional correction is planned within the same operation. This approach is medically sound (avoiding the need for a second procedure) and, because the aesthetic result is in harmony with function, it is also more stable in the long term. Septoplasty is included in the rhinoplasty package at no additional charge when it is a medical necessity.
When can revision rhinoplasty be performed?
Revision rhinoplasty is performed for patients who are dissatisfied with the result of a previous rhinoplasty. At least 12 months must have passed since the first operation — because tissue healing and the resolution of swelling take this long. Early revision is frequently based on an inaccurate assessment of the final result. Revision rhinoplasty is a more demanding procedure than the primary operation; tissue planes may have changed, scar tissue may have developed and cartilaginous support may have weakened. A reconstructive surgical background and experience with revision cases are therefore critical. Costal or auricular cartilage grafts may be required in revision cases; this is planned following consultation.
How many days should I stay in Cyprus after rhinoplasty?
The minimum we recommend is 7 days: day 1 for surgery, days 2–6 for rest and swelling reduction, day 7 for cast removal and review, and day 8 for departure. The ideal duration is 10 days — during this time the initial visible recovery is complete and 2–3 additional days of observation are possible after cast removal. Flying is acceptable once at least 24–48 hours have passed after cast removal. For long-haul flights (7+ hours), completing the full 10 days makes for a more comfortable recovery. Direct sun, the sea and swimming pools are not recommended for the first 4 weeks; for this reason, strenuous activity should not be planned during the first post-operative week in Cyprus — short, gentle walks along the Kyrenia waterfront are fine.
What is ethnic rhinoplasty and how do you approach Turkish or Mediterranean nasal anatomy?
Ethnic rhinoplasty is aesthetic refinement in patients of varied ethnic backgrounds that preserves the characteristic features of their nasal anatomy. Turkish and Mediterranean nasal anatomy typically features a more prominent dorsum, thicker skin and a more defined bridge; Middle Eastern anatomy may present similar features even more markedly. These anatomical differences cannot be addressed with a standard European surgical approach; technique is adapted according to skin thickness and cartilaginous structure. Our aim is not to erase ethnic identity but to improve facial proportion. Dr. Meyzin's extensive case experience in Turkey and North Cyprus is a key factor in managing this anatomical diversity. Forcing Western nasal ideals produces results that alienate the face from its identity — this is not something we do.
What is the approximate cost of rhinoplasty?
At Nis Clinic, rhinoplasty (nose reshaping) falls in an average range of €4,000–€6,000 (2026 reference). This figure varies according to the technique (open/closed approach, preservation or structural rhinoplasty), the need for cartilage grafting and the scope of any revision. Tip rhinoplasty alone is a more limited intervention and is approximately €2,800; hospital stay is typically 1 night and the recommended stay in North Cyprus is 7–10 days. A precise price is given to each patient following consultation and examination — the figures here are for preliminary planning purposes.
