Hair Transplant in Northern Cyprus — FUE, DHI, Sapphire Techniques

Hair transplantation is one of the most commonly performed aesthetic procedures worldwide, with Türkiye seeing particularly high volumes. Istanbul's high throughput and competitive pricing come with a trade-off: patients frequently become part of a high-volume assembly-line workflow. Northern Cyprus (TRNC) occupies a different position — lower caseloads, longer consultation times, and a clinic structure where the surgeon is involved throughout the procedure.

At Nis Clinic, we approach every hair transplant on this basis. Hairline design, donor area analysis, and graft planning are carried out under the supervision of Dr. İbrahim Meyzin — this is not a model where a technician team performs extraction and implantation independently. FUE, DHI, and Sapphire FUE each suit a different patient profile; choosing the right technique is often more consequential than graft count alone.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and takes 6–8 hours. Discomfort is minimal and recovery is straightforward. For patients travelling from abroad, we offer a medical tourism package covering 3 nights' accommodation, airport transfers, the procedure itself, a medication kit, and 12 months of follow-up. Consultation is free of charge; we present our results from our photo archive and set expectations honestly from the outset.

Which Technique Is Right for You?

There is no single "best technique" in hair transplantation — the right choice depends on your hair characteristics, donor area, and target density. Here is how the three main techniques differ in practice:

  • FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is the established and most widely used technique. Follicles are harvested individually from the donor area, channels are created, and grafts are placed. It is a strong choice for larger areas, high graft counts (3,000–5,000), and diffuse loss patterns.
  • DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) uses a Choi implanter pen, combining channel creation and implantation in a single step. It is particularly suited to small-to-medium areas, placement between existing hair, and cases where faster recovery is a priority.
  • Sapphire FUE is an evolution of classic FUE — channels are opened with a sapphire-tipped blade rather than steel. The incision angle is more precise and tissue healing is cleaner. It is the preferred technique for frontal hairline design where natural angulation is critical.

Eyebrow, beard, and moustache transplants are performed with single-hair grafts on the facial area; the surgical principle is the same as FUE, but the design enters an entirely different aesthetic discipline. Hair PRP is not a transplant technique — it is a platelet-rich plasma injection used to slow active loss or support recovery after a procedure. The correct protocol for all of these is determined at consultation.

Services

Neden Nis Clinic?

Surgeon involvement throughout

Planning, hairline marking, and critical implantation stages are carried out under the direct supervision of Dr. İbrahim Meyzin. This is not a high-volume model where a technician team operates independently.

Individualised hairline design

The frontal hairline is designed individually for each patient. Age, facial proportions, and donor capacity are assessed together — there are no template hairlines.

Fully manual planning

Graft selection, placement angle, and density planning are done manually. Each graft receives an individual decision — not an automated assembly-line approach.

12-month follow-up included

Post-operative check on day one, then photographic follow-up at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months. The medical tourism package covers the full results period, not just the appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which hair transplant technique is the most effective?
There is no single "best" technique — the choice depends on your hair type, donor area, and target density. FUE performs well for large areas and high graft counts. DHI is well suited to placement between existing hair and faster recovery. Sapphire FUE delivers precise natural angulation, particularly for frontal hairline design. During consultation we compare all three techniques and determine which is most appropriate for you.
How many grafts will I need?
Graft count is determined by the degree of loss (Norwood or Ludwig scale), donor area capacity, and your target density. For the frontal hairline and crown, 2,500–3,500 grafts are typically sufficient. For more extensive loss, 4,000–5,000 grafts can be transplanted in a single session. In some cases, two sessions yield a more reliable outcome — we make this decision clearly at the first consultation.
How long does a hair transplant procedure take?
The procedure takes 6–8 hours depending on graft count and technique. The majority of this time is allocated to anaesthesia, extraction, and implantation. You remain under local anaesthesia throughout — awake but without discomfort. A lunch break and refreshment pauses are included. General anaesthesia is not required.
What does the recovery process look like?
Days 1–3: mild swelling and redness; a specialist washing protocol is followed. Days 7–10: scabbing in the donor and transplanted areas falls away naturally. Weeks 2–3: temporary shedding begins — this is a normal part of the process and does not affect graft viability. New hair growth begins from around month 3. Most patients return to work within 3–5 days.
When will results become visible?
Visible hair growth typically begins at months 3–4. By month 6, approximately 60% of density is established; by month 9, around 80%. Final results become apparent at 12–14 months. This timeline can vary by one to two months between individuals. Our follow-up programme includes photographic checks at each stage — essential for confirming progress and introducing supportive treatments such as PRP or minoxidil at the right time.
How many days should I plan for a visit to Northern Cyprus for my procedure?
Our medical tourism package is structured around 3 nights' accommodation. Day 1: consultation, planning, and blood tests. Day 2: procedure (6–8 hours). Day 3: check-up, washing instructions, and discharge. Airport transfers, accommodation, the procedure, a medication kit, and 12 months of remote follow-up are all included. For flight planning, a return journey on the evening after your final check-up is straightforward.
What do hair transplants cost in Northern Cyprus?
Pricing depends on the technique, graft count, and package. There are meaningful differences between FUE, DHI, and Sapphire FUE in terms of process and associated costs. We can only provide an accurate figure after donor analysis and planning at the first consultation — we do not use template quotes such as "3,000 grafts at X price", because the planning behind 3,000 grafts differs from patient to patient. We recommend booking a consultation to discuss pricing in context.
Can women have a hair transplant?
Yes. Female-pattern hair loss (Ludwig pattern) progresses differently from male-pattern loss — it typically presents as diffuse thinning, with frontal hairline recession being less common. For women, an endocrinology and dermatology assessment before surgery is important; if an underlying hormonal or medical cause is identified, this is addressed first. FUE and DHI are the preferred techniques for suitable candidates; unshaven (no-shave) options are also available.
